Multidisciplinary Veterinary Care Assistant

Overview

Veterinary care assistants are members of the clinical support team and help to provide consistently high standards of patient care and premises management. This is a varied entry-level position offering an opportunity to gain experience in animal husbandry and patient care; theatre practice; sterilisation techniques; assistance with consultations and examinations; out-of-hours care and the required levels of hygiene in all areas. The practice premises should be regarded as a hospital and standards of cleanliness and presentation should reflect this at all times. Veterinary care assistants are required to take a full and active role within the practice to develop both their animal-care skills and technical knowledge to enable them to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the practice. A proactive approach will also ensure their own personal development and maximize their future career opportunities. Teamwork is essential and it will be necessary to willingly accept instruction from veterinary surgeons, nurses, pharmacy assistants and members of the management team on occasion to ensure best clinical practice.
