What are Treatments are Available for Hyperthyroidism?

There are four different types of treatment for hyperthyroidism including:

  • Medication
  • Diet
  • Surgery
  • Radioactive iodine (RAI).

Medications and diet do not cure this condition, and so lifelong administration/feeding is needed. Surgery can cure hyperthyroidism but this can be associated with complications. RAI is considered the best treatment for hyperthyroidism as it does not require an anaesthetic, a single treatment can cure 95% of cats and it is also associated with few complications.
