Our Nurses are actively encouraged to be the best they can be with a generous CPD allowance as well as structured programmes for those wishing to study for the RCVS Advanced Nursing Diploma and American Veterinary Technicians Speciality qualifications. RVNs have the chance to present either internal or external CPD and are encouraged to become clinical coaches to help support our fantastic student nursing team. Veterinary nursing at Willows offers many opportunities to develop advanced nursing techniques including; monitoring MRI patients, use of neuromuscular blocking agents and high dependency nursing. We pride ourselves on development opportunities available for our RVNs such as progression to Lead Nurse or Team Leader ensuring that we can provide a career pathway that enables our Nurses to excel.
As one of the UKs leading small animal referral centres Willows is proud to be home to world renowned Specialists across a multi-disciplinary service. Our nurses work closely with the Specialist teams on day to day basis embracing Willows’ friendly and collaborative culture.
Our team of almost 20 Veterinary Care Assistants (VCAs) work closely with the Nursing team and Vets to ensure our patients’ receive the highest level of care. Essential to the running of the hospital, our multidisciplinary VCAs work across the entire hospital and also provide vital assistance overnight for our emergency and critical care service. We pride ourselves of providing opportunities for progression by offering VCAs the opportunity to specialise within the Medicine department, Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Suite and Cardiology department.
The role of a VCA can provide a fantastic gateway to career in Veterinary Nursing, with student positions offered to the team on an annual basis.
At Willows our Pharmacy team play a vital part in our patient’s journey of care, working tirelessly to ensure they have the medications they require, liaising with Vets and clients regarding repeat prescriptions and managing the stock and ordering system within the hospital.
Our Clinical Support Services team also includes our Sterile Services team who are critical to the provision of our commitment to excellence and our world class patient care. The team prepare, process, disinfect and sterilise surgical kits and specialised equipment. As well being involved in ordering and stock rotation of surgical implants and prostheses.
